As always it is a pleasure to greet new and existing customers at the shows so I hope you can drop by and say hello!

let it sew, let it sew, let it sew…

In a few days time we will be welcoming in 2016! I hope you have enjoyed the festivities and like me are busy preparing resolutions for the New Year. to be cropped

The development of a new pack of parts (shown above) including thread, buttons and mixed width fabrics sourced from the Liberty and Worn and Washed ranges includes textures, patterns and plains for completing large format projects is well under way.

The interaction with my lovely inspirational customers continues to create new ideas too. Here are two projects which come to mind. A range of oranges for a Halloween challenge and the combining of Liberty and Worn and Washed fabrics together to create instant uniqueness, richness and charm in equal measure; which knows no boundaries.

I loved the following bespoke colour way so much and found that I could recreate it using the available fabrics that are used in my classic worn and washed ranges.

Summertime…and the quilting is easy…

The year is dashing by,  the early summer shows were very enjoyable with ongoing mail order proving very satisfying: its great to be asked to make bundles inspired by your ideas.  In the last month I have made themed bundles remembering “London buses” and a huge orange/terracotta/yellow collection which started with a vague reference to “Halloween” and finished with texture and colour with a summer influence.

I am planning some changes mainly to reflect all the Liberty designs I have, which are increasingly included in the “worn and washed” bundles, as well as having their own place at the shows.  I am thoroughly enjoying the creative process involved in using the sample pieces, there are now scarves, cushions, bags, ready to sew packs, and other projects in the pipeline.

The festival of Quilts at the NEC is the next event, but I will be making another announcement in a couple of weeks, about a new venture, its currently just a box under the table….
For the NEC I have made a whole collection called “indigo ink”, a reflection of the very first worn and washed quilt with an assortment of complimentary packs of darker bundles and Liberty collections.
The new pictures here show the “London bus” collection, with a summer influenced Halloween commission  “indigo ink” and “sky blue pink.

There are new colour ways available, firstly Liberty Pickle ©, subtle tones of grey mustard and blacks with insets of Liberty lawn in floral and abstract prints.

Christmas Crackers!

A little later than planned the December update is very full so at least you will have a good read!
The festival of quilts way back in September was the best ever for me, seeing so many friends and some nice compliments on the new ideas, the open layout of the stand very nearly worked,  I will make some changes for next time.
soft quilts web update
The soft quilts shown are still proving very popular, we made several at the
workshop in June, with new and experienced sewers enjoying the two days. I have a new batch of flannel bundles too, very soft colours,  blues, blues/pinks and vintage whites.
new flannel selection
Currently in the pipeline is a new range of “shirty” packs after a raid on the local hospice shop found me with 200 to wash and cut up. A trip out on “black Friday”, who knew the charity shops were seemingly untouched by panic buying and even though they no longer give free bags I found so much they kindly found me a bin liner to drag away the haul.
A four month project has finally come to fruition,  “textured tana” ©,  is now available in scarf and cushion packs, with lots more projects planned in the coming months.
best cusion scarf pic
Briefly;  I found something  at  a boot fair, a soft linen feel almost translucent very small cloth,  its on the back of one of my mini quilts, this led to an extensive search for something similar.  After several attempts I found a linen mix which when sewn directly to Liberty lawn and then washed produces a soft, textured effect, see cushion pic.
the packs are quick and easy to make up, consisting of 24 pieces of Liberty lawn, the linen backing and a gutterman variegated thread, I have also commissioned a silk thread which I used to hand sew the original scarf, but this is still in transit from India.
The Liberty library finishes this month, I hope you enjoyed adding some special fabric to your collections. If you are a member of the library you will get a full colour flyer showing “textured tana” © with your sample selection.

I will be at the Spring Knit and Stitch show at Olympia  March 12 – 15 and the very next week end at Sewing for Pleasure at the NEC March 19 – 22.

Until then please visit my facebook page for regular updates and I hope you have a very friendly and festive Christmas and New Year.

The heat is on…

Well doesn’t time fly, since the last update, the workshop week end has been and gone, with 18 + quilts made in a lovely but sometime slightly frantic atmosphere. My guests were a super mix of returning sewers and beginners, all returned home with a quilt.
Now of course its the busy road to the Festival of Quilts, but with thanks to my friends who listen to my ramblings, sit and fold fabrics and of course Mark who shops, cooks and gardens everything is on track. Two new pictures for you, some new bundles,
3 bundles in a tree
many of them featuring Liberty, (of different weights) andliberty nec20140725_130620 (2)
the Liberty display cupboard, which is to be filled with a selection of tiny things collected over the years.
So when the pattern calls for a selection of small piece please come to stand E25 to see sample pieces, (Liberty), scrap bags, (worn and washed), individual pieces, and all the bundles in all the colour ways.
See you soon.

Spring Fever…

Though a little later than planned all current events are now confirmed:

There are still a couple of places left so please let me know if you would like to come. If you have not been before please try to come as I will have time to make sure you sew a quilt, the only thing you need is your machine and it’s ability to sew forwards…

I have also been busy completing many commissions ‘for customers, covering all colour ways, here are some of the pictures:

Commission work is so highly personally rewarding work as it sparks many creative ideas.

So don’t be shy about contacting me with your wishes and likes. Today for example I am starting on work for a lady in south Africa who wants “our look” rather than the bright sunshine colours of Africa,

Of course I still supply the biggest collection of Liberty lawn in strips, pieces, and sample pieces, I am collating them into colour way sets,  my current  favourite is “mistral” teamed with rigorously washed linen and cotton. I will have plenty of hexagons at the shows, in packs of 50  ALL DIFFERENT DESIGNS, with matching paper templates, I have recently acquired a new batch of classic pieces to do this, plus die cut shapes in hearts and leaves.

Keep watching here or on my “facebook” page for more bundles, fabrics, liberty tana lawn collections and all things different,

Happy sewing!

2014 first things first…

As always there is plenty going on at the worn and washed work station, and also with worn and washed sewers who have very kindly sent me pictures of their talents, thank you for sending me the pictures,  in no particular order here are some of them.jane elliot shabby chic
This shabby chic was made from a bundle exhibited at Olympia in March,
the “gustav” based gift was purchased by mail and the flannel quilt was a bundle purchased as a gift and made in record time.
The pink Liberty started with a small sample pack which I added to and the end result is a lovely display of prints, machine quilted with great skill.
