Carrefour Européen du Patchwork

Ooo la la were off for our first time exhibiting at this show Carrefour Européen du Patchwork in the region of Alsace, France held over the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th September. I am really excited to be going as I have heard lots of nice things about this event.

Le Carrefour Européen du Patchwork

The grand plan is to take the full compliment of worn and washed large and small bundles in the most popular colourways as well as the Kim Porter Fabrics Liberty Tana Lawn pieces.

Of course the scarf, cushion kits which feature many rare prints in various colours all matched beautifully will be there too!

The new Fairy Lights from worn and washed will make it’s first European outing having had it’s well received launch at The Festival of Quilts a few weeks back.

People have already contacted me to say they are coming, some from Denmark and Holland so I look forward to meeting them and of course everyone else who makes the journey to visit this world famous show in an area steeped in patchwork history.

A bientot!

FofQ Tickets Competition Conclusion

Thank you for entering the competition, some really fine suggestions. Finally after a lot of dinner time wrangling we have decided on a name for the damask/linen/cotton collection of fabrics….it came via the website from someone who can’t use the tickets.!…the name is “Fairy Lights”, so in the interest of fairness we put the other suggestions in a hat and pulled one out the Festival of Quilts tickets go to Heather Magill.

Enjoy the show Heather, come by and say Hello!

A winning word, that’s the ticket!

Hello, as we get closer to the Festival of Quilts I  have come up with a way for you to have a chance to win two tickets to the show at the NEC, Birmingham.
My summer project this year has been to mix “worn and washed fabrics” speedy strippy quilts with more traditional techniques, during the never ending clear up in the fabric mines I kept on finding damask table cloths, huckaback linen and self stripe sheets, now they are all together with hexagons (also including worn and washed fabrics) appliqued for decoration.

On a technical note I basted the papers and die cut shapes, pressed them and removed the papers, I then machined the shapes to about half of the linen pieces before sewing the strips.  I also included one bigger set of hexagons, hand stitched in the traditional way.  I have stitched some of the hexagons to the quilt by hand on other pieces which gives a lovely result, but as I need to wash the quilts after every show I feel they might be more secure long term.

I have finished one quilt, see “rolled” below, and made some adjustments to the second  one which is now ready for hand quilting

The bundles of fabrics  300 grams each, the 40 die cut hexagons and papers are available by post now, the bundles are heavier than usual to take account of extra weight fabrics.  I have only included the lighter damask/linens, there will be some more projects using the heavier ones hopefully by August.  the finished quilt is 44″ x 42″.  The bundles are the same price as the others £30.00, and the forty hexagons with papers are £4.50,
So can you clever lot come up with a name for the new bundles? Please let me know by email or on the Facebook page and if I use your suggestion the tickets will be yours!
Good luck!

Summer Sizzler

Apologies for this long overdue blog post, so much to do so little time, for more regular updates please visit my facebook page where I post very regularly.
Although it  is only June my focus is the Festival of Quilts, August 10th – 13,  after a successful run of shows in April/May I am re making the popular colourways as well as introducing some new ones, and as usual there will be some ” one offs” .  I do have some new projects , which I will share with you all very soon.
All worn and washed fabric bundles are now a little bigger, I have changed from imperial to metric, so the bundles are now 125, 250 and 500 grams
all about 10% heavier than before, but no price increase.
“washdayblues” continues to be a great favourite, and “new year neutrals” has been updated with a slightly more rosy hue.

Those of you I saw at Quilts UK will have seen the little quilt made with 125 grams of 2.5″ strips and backed with a soft cotton baby cellular blanket,  I have re made these bundles too.

For the events schedule I will be at the London Knit and Stitch show, October 11 – 15, and then the Autumn Quilt Fair at Duxford October 27 – 29.
As always I’m making lots of bundles on commission, and am happy to fulfil any special requests, please check back again soon as there will be a new naming competition with the prize being 2 tickets for the Festival of Quilts.

New Year Adventures!

New projects underway and busy getting ready for the 3 Spring shows coming up very quickly.
I will be at :

The Spring Quilt Festival  Duxford Cambridge  – March 3 4 5

Sewing for Pleasure NEC Birmingham – March 17 18 19

Patchwork and Quiltdagen Rijswijk , Holland  – April 7 8 9

I am really pleased to be re visiting the Rijswijk show in April its been a few years since I first attended. I really hope I get to see people whom I generally only see at the Festival of Quilts. I will be showing all the favourites and the full range of Liberty kits, bundles and pieces. All exclusive to Kim Porter under the worn and washed fabrics label.
There are several new colourways, updates of favourites and new sizes to keep things fresh and a la mode.

new favourite “Liberty” blues for kits and packs

The “Elements” collection was very poular last year, so I have re cut the three width collection, and organised the binding and quilting thread.  The blues are back in the medium to dark tones included flannels and Liberty lantana, all washed and softened.

Elements Collection

The new sandy/linen/oaty combination bundles include linen, cotton/linen and cotton sateen in various shades of nude to brown to pink to white.  Some of the linen is new but has been given the “washed” treatment making it a joy to hand quilt, which I intend to start any day now.

New Neutrals

The new big “Old Blue Strippy” quilt and bundles are nearly finished. The quilting is curvy lines, made much easier by working from the back.

All bundles are now 500grams and 250grams, , so slightly more fabric in each one and I am pleased to say no price increase!
See you all very soon I hope,

With Duxford on my mind…

Just making the final preparations for the Autumn Quilt Show at Duxford,  some new things, and some worn and washed favourites  and a special tray of all rare fabrics and colour ways.   The “vintage stitchery” selections have been very popular so there is a big new range all ready to inspire you creatively. I just need to find a way to speed the process of putting them together!

I also have a new colour range of tana lawn pieces in pretty pinks lilacs and mauves, as scarves, cushions and sets of just the pieces.

Increasingly I am hand sewing the scarves and cushions and have arranged things so you can choose the thread yourself from the whole selection, for either machine or hand stitching.

“worn and washed fabrics” will go into its 15th season next year which is amazing! I am planning a few changes. I would like to ask you to take part in a small survey, please let me know if you are at the next two shows. I will also post the survey details here on my blog when my show season has finished.
I am conscious that an announcement about future workshops is overdue, apologies dear reader but the logistics are proving awkward at the moment.
And so to Duxford, it is on October 28 29 and 30, and then afterwards on to the glorious “Cowslip Workshops” Christmas Fair on  November 18 19 20, Cowslip beautiful venue is just outside Launceston in the county of Cornwall.
See you soon!

Hever Castle

A really big ‘thank you’ to everyone of you that I saw at the Festival of Quilts, the return trip was considerably lighter, so its busy times now to get ready for the next show which is:
Handmade and Homegrown, the 25th anniversary show of the Kent Surrey and Sussex Quilters Guild at Hever Castle in Kent, 2 ,3 and 4 September.
The new “vintage stitchery” packs were a great success at the Festival so I’ve made more,  finding and buying all the bits and pieces is great fun, creates more mess but I think the results are worth it.
I’ve also made new flannel bundles and as a change some dull 3m x 4″ bundles inspired by an old quilt from a few years back.  Plus a new batch of the popular “toybox” mini quilt  rolls. 20160823_105904
Very soon it will be Kirsty  Allsops Handmade week end at Hampton Court  September 16, 17 and 18, so all the new ideas will be finished and with me there.
Still making commission pieces, this big flannel bundle in blues has been a project for this week end. Email me at if you’d like a special order.
See you all very soon!

the festival of fun…

You will find worn and washed fabrics on stand E25 not 45, as stated in the index of the show programme 😦 , pretty much in the same place as we always are at The Festival of Quilts!

The Liberty cushion, scarf packs sold extremely well on the first day so hopefully I’ll have enough to see me through till Sunday!

the summery of things…

A long overdue (again) update but there’s lots to tell so here it is:
I have up dated the shows and events page to reflect new bookings.
There are new quilt colourways for the Festival of Quilts and some updates on old favourites.
The newest is “worn out flip flops”, inspired by a row of old flip flops resting on the deck of a surf shack, it has lots of texture and there are two different colours, a stronger blue, terracotta, dull pink with old linen and “flip flop” light which leans more towards dull blues and pinks.
Lots of favourite pinks, in smooths, flannels and a mix of both, plus a mix of mauves and blue originally made about 10 years ago and a re vamp of the “washday blues”.

I’ve re cut the “shabby chic” range and included some very lightweight damask with a red strip, along with lovely Laura Ashley confetti.

The Liberty selection packs have some additional colour ranges along with the “ready to sew ” 40 piece selections, all exclusively packed by us and some new scarf and cushion packs.
I was also able to buy a large selection of beautiful sylko threads, soft muted colours, great for machine and hand sewing, I quilted the “flip flop” quilt with the dullest mauve.
Please don’t forget that the facebook pages:  kim porter fabrics and worn and washed fabrics are updated regularly so I look forward to seeing you there.
see you soon,
